Springtide

Written and illustrated by Emma DeAngelo

I burst open with spring

I bloom with every flower

Following every bird on its migration home toward warmth

In the sun's rays, I am found

Counting my fingers in the morning light

With the coming season

I dissolve my rumbling waves

How the newness calms me still

My body further calms–turning saccharine

With my car windows rolled down

In the evening, leaving Delaney's house

As the light floods in bright and pleasant

Everything becomes blurry with nostalgia

And my mind is full of sentiment

Each tree knows my name

The wind whispers through the leaves to remind me

My heart is becoming something sweet and honeyed

Ripe in the incalescent night

I find the world is brimming with hope

In spring, I am renewed

Born again with the earth

I welcome her change with open arms

And she comforts me with these graces

Soft and tender

I welcome spring, and she envelops me

for we have always been one

Spring and I
