Sweet Treats in Fashion

Ever since I can remember, I have been drawn to fake desserts. As strange as it is, there’s something desirable about an object that looks delectable when in reality it’s made from plastic and clay. I I’m not the only one who is drawn to fake foods as there are many fashionists that incorporate desert motifs, chimes and accessories into their wardrobe. I am inspired by the Japanese craft sweets Decoden.

What is Decoden? Originating in Japan in the early 2000s, decoden is the craft of using fake icing, like paint and charms to decorate items like phone cases, jewelry boxes, and keychains. Using cute elements that mimic desserts and sprinkle, sweet Decoden was born.

Crafters would turn their phones into mouthwatering masterpieces with fake frosting covered case cases topped with clay, chocolate biscuits, and cake. Ultra cute details make you just want to eat it!

This is a compact mirror I decorated using puffy paint buttons, and of course, clay charms. I made these charms with oven big clay in the process, very similar to real baking although this mirror is anything but practical, I still like to keep it in my bag and show it to my fellow Decoden friends.
