Eat The News

Visual media by Robin Sala

With graphics heavily inspired by ’90s gossip magazines, I wanted to emulate a satirically relatable magazine cover with funny, somewhat pointless headlines surrounding it. For the Covergirl, I chose to represent a conventionally attractive “influencer” in a 50’s fashion style, representing society's return to conservative, trad-wife values (thus endangering marginalized communities in the process). The illustration symbolizes social media's obsession with vanity, trends, and petty online gossip and how it often distracts users from larger worldwide issues. To (ironically) quote Courtney Kardashian, “Kim, there's people that are dying.”
